Nov 4, 1922 - Apr 2, 2018
Nadine Vera Nickel passed away of natural causes on April 2, 2018 in Creston, B.C., at the age of 95 years.

Nadine was born on November 4, 1922 in Saskatoon, SK to John and Jacie Shouse. She attended the Maidstone School which she graduated from with honours. Nadine moved with her parents to Creston, B.C. where her father ran the local pool hall. While Nadine was sweeping the floors in the pool hall she met Norman Nickel. They courted and married on December 7, 1943. Three children were born of this union, Doug, Earl, and Bonnie.

Nadine was a true homemaker, canning, baking, and sewing all her children's clothing. She was well known in the neighbourhood for her homemade root beer and donuts. She was also the second woman ever hired as a teller at Imperial Bank in 1945. Nadine was an avid bridge player- she was a duplicate bridge champion. She also loved golfing, curling and crib. It would make her day if she could beat her son-in-law Lloyd at a game of crib.

In earlier years memories were made at the cabin in Sanka that Nadine and Norman had built for their family. Nadine attended the Redeemer Lutheran Church and later the Trinity United Church, being an active member in both churches ladies' groups. She taught us to appreciate every opportunity you have and always encouraged any education, especially post-secondary.

Nadine is predeceased by her mother and father John and Jacie Shouse, sister Irma Southwick, and her loving husband Norman Nickel.

She is survived by her children Doug (Delores) of Vancouver, B.C., Earl of Oakland, California, and Bonnie (Lloyd) of Creston, B.C.; grandchildren Kevin, Laurie, Michelle, Peter, and Julien; great-grandchildren Victoria, Ashley, Matthew, Andrew, Sophie, Dawson, Connor, Jacob, Hudson, and Paige.

A Celebration of Life was held on April 9, 2018 at Crest View Care Village, Creston, B.C.

Memorial donations may be made in Nadine's name to a charity of the donor's choosing.
