Margaret Griffiths Pender

November 16, 1918 ~ March 22, 2011.

Margaret began life on the farm west of Grande Prairie, Alberta, the eldest of six children born to William and Margaret Griffiths. Her early schooling was at Percy school, with high school at St. Joseph’s Academy. She was proud to be one of the “St. Jo’s Girls”. Margaret was an accomplished singer, and active in softball and curling throughout her early adult life. She returned to her studies as a mature student, and began a teaching career that spanned more than two decades, and two provinces.

Margaret has been an inspiration to her family, her students and to her many friends. She played piano with musical groups in the Peace River country, and in her senior years in Kimberley. When her eyesight failed, she learned to play by ear, moved to Creston to be with daughter Holly, and began to perform with a small group at seniors’ homes.

Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Robert Pender.

Mourning her loss are her two daughters, Patricia (Ken) and Holly; granddaughters Shauna and Tara (John); and great-grandchildren Elysha, Keenan, and Annora.

Friends may make donations in her memory to a charity of their choice.

A memorial service is planned for this summer.

The family wish to express sincere thanks and appreciation for the dedication of the home support workers who made it possible for our Mom to spend the last few years at home, and also to the medical staff who cared for her over the past month in Cranbrook and Creston hospitals.

Arrangements entrusted to G.F. Oliver Funeral Chapel.
