Marcel Henri Fafard

November 13, 1932 ~ September 29, 2014

Marcel, beloved husband of Alice Fafard and dear friend of Barbara Webb, passed away on Monday, September 29, 2014 at the age of 81 years in Calgary, Alberta.

Born and raised in Scout Lake, Marcel moved to Edmonton in 1948 at the age of 16. Here this amazingly resourceful and industrious teen took an auto mechanics course, pumped gas, worked on cars at Nash Motors, sold auto parts and set pins at the bowling alley. In 1953 he married his sweetheart Alice Lamontagne of Lisieux, Saskatchewan. That same year he began work with Edmonton Transit where he would work first as a bus driver, then supervisor and finally senior manager. In 1989 Marcel and Alice retired to Creston, British Columbia where they enjoyed golfing, gardening, woodworking and spending time with friends. After Alice's death in 2001, Marcel moved to Calgary where he could be closer to Marcie and his new partner Barbara.

Marcel was active in the communities in which he lived. He served on the Board of Directors of the Transit Credit Union, was active in the parish council and the Knights of Columbus, was a member of Citizens on Patrol and acted as treasurer for the Creston Hospice Society.

Besides his loving partner Barbara, Marcel is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Marcie and Garry Schmidt; his three sons and daughters-in-law, Denis Fafard and Evelyn Schimmel, Patrick and Katherine Fafard, and Arthur Fafard and Louise Dirks; grandchild Luc Dirks-Fafard; and brother Jacques Fafard.

A funeral was held Saturday, October 4 at 3:00 p.m at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1414 Shawnessy Blvd. SW in Calgary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

A tree will be planted in the Memorial Forest at Fish Creek Park in memory of Marcel.
