In Loving Memory (1928-2023) ~
Lynne Adair-Williams of Creston, B.C., went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on August 18th, 2023, at age 94. Her daughters, Everyl and Dawna, were present with her when she passed peacefully.
Lynne was wonderfully cared for during her final days by the staff of Crest View Care Center. She joins with her husband of 68 years, Les, who preceded her in passing in 2021.
Lynne was born Lillian Ethel Adair in Shackleton, Saskatchewan, in 1928 to Jeremiah and Ethel Adair.
She loved her prairie village where her father had many successful businesses and her mother assisted with the community and local church. Her brother, Girvin, a schoolteacher, served in WW2 and preceded her in death in 2003.
When Lynne’s mother passed away when she was 14 and her father at 16, she was taken in by the family of Pastor A.C. Williams whose middle son, Les, became her future husband.
Lynne went to Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria for nursing training and graduated as a Registered Nurse. She served her communities as an R.N. for over 35 years.
Lynne and Les started their family with Everyl, Bryan, and Cameron in Red Deer, Alberta. From there they built several Eventide Funeral Chapels throughout central Alberta.
They later moved to Penticton, B.C., where their fourth child, Dawna, was born into the family. Lynne worked in the local hospital and also helped Les open Les and Lynne’s Argyle Confectionary, a small neighbourhood corner grocery store at the intersection of Scott & Argyle.
She loved to find a spot for the family trailer somewhere nearby that offered close family time together; Lynne had a lifelong love of being outdoors and spending time in nature. Lynne initiated the Young Toastmaster Club in Penticton High School so that her children would be proficient public speakers. She was deeply involved in the local church and made sure her children participated in every play and event offered.
Les & Lynne then chose Victoria for the next chapter in their lives. Victoria gave Lynne a chance to continue her love of learning. At the University of Victoria, she completed a Certificate of General Studies.
When it came time to retire, Creston, B.C. became Les & Lynne’s resting spot. She loved the flowers that were abundant in the Creston Valley. She helped in local churches with a special love for the ministry of Pastor Gordon and Brenda Lawrence at New Life Church.
Her family loved to visit home and share in the bounty of Les’ garden and orchard. Her basement was filled with canned fruit and vegetables that she shared with all.
She lived out her faith in so many ways. When hit by a drunk driver, she refused to prosecute as she wanted to practice forgiveness as her faith expected. Her Bible was her constant companion to her final days. Hymns and choruses of her faith wafted into every corner.
Lynne’s “joie de vivre” was also evident in myriad ways. She liked travelling to wherever her kids could be found. And her favourite activities revolved around creating gifts and experiences for the family to enjoy. From sewing, crocheting, quilting, and painting, to hiking, riding roller coasters, and attending weddings and graduations, she wanted to leave a legacy of loving memories for each family member.
Her final years were spent in Crest View Village. Les & Lynne first shared an apartment together until the time came when Lynne needed extra care. The staff of Crest View Care Village were wonderful with Mom, treating her with immense kindness and compassion; as she had done for others as a Registered Nurse, they did for her.
A favourite activity was the weekly phone calls “on the big TV upstairs” with her family on Zoom; a special thank you to Kathy for always going above and beyond to help Lynne’s family connect via technology with Mom. Despite closed borders, we were able to regularly spend time with Mom. The family is incredibly grateful.
Lynne Adair-Williams is survived by her four children and their spouses, Everyl Edith & Kurt Meckes, Leslie Bryan & Lynette Williams, Cameron Rodford & Cindy Williams, and Dawna Lynne Adair Williams; 10 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
Part of Mom’s legacy is that her married children all have marriages that have lasted over 40 years. Lynne was preceded in death by her loving husband Leslie Herbert, her brother Girvin Wesley, and her parents Jeremiah Wesley and Ethel Myrtle Adair. Her mother Ethel was among all those who welcomed her into the place her spirit always longed to be, with the One who loved her best.
Mom’s Graveside Celebration of Life was held Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erickson, B.C.
