March 27, 1935 - January 7, 2021
After living a blessed life of 85 years, Lorraine Mary Poburn passed away peacefully with family by her side on January 7th 2021 in Creston BC.
Lorraine was born in the family farmhouse during a heavy snow storm 8 miles outside of St. Albert, AB. on March 27th 1935. She was 1 of 9 L'Hirondelle children.
She met the love of her life Mike Poburn at the age of 16 and was married in 1952 in Villeneuve AB. Together they raised 5 children (Bradley, Karen, Lois, Holly and Jennifer).
As a young mother she drove the school bus in Sundre Alberta, wrapped Christmas trees at a tree farm in Fort Steele B.C. & worked at various restaurants in Cranbrook B.C. Lorraine and Mike later owned and operated M&R Burger Bar in Cranbrook BC. The hot spot in town at that time.
After leaving Cranbrook they started a group home (Mountain View Lodge) for adults in Creston B.C. where she gave her selfless devotion of love and care to those who were part of her extended family.
Her competitive nature came at a cost with a few injuries as she loved to play baseball and other sports. She also loved to curl, spend time in her garden and boating with Mike and friends.
Lorraine loved to cook, her home was always a place where people felt welcome to drop by for a good meal and some entertainment. Friends and family have fond memories of being together for any occasion. She loved cooking the meals for her children's weddings till the late hours of the night, large Christmas dinners for her family or even just a simple BBQ. Nothing filled her heart more.
Her ministry in life was caring for others and soaking them in love right to her last days. Her 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren loved and respected her. The family admired and looked up to her. She left a legacy for her family of loving the Lord and her faith in prayer. Thank you, Mom. We know you are now dancing in heaven with Dad.
"Well done good and faithful servant" Matt 25:23
The family would like to thank the staff at Swan Valley Lodge for all their love and care in the past 6 years. You were like family to her, we truly thank you.
As mom would say "Thank you Sweetheart."
In lieu of flowers, friends and family can make a memorial contribution to the "Equipment fund" Swan Valley Lodge Box 3000, Creston BC, V0B 1G0
