Laura Jane Holder passed away in Fernie, BC on January 6, 2014 at the age of 87.

Laura was born in New Norway, Alberta on April 14, 1926, being the youngest of five sisters and one brother. Laura moved to Creston in 1943 with her parents who began to farm on the Creston flats.

In 1948, she married James Anthony (Tony) Holder and together had three children, Pat, Duane and Judy.

While raising a family, Laura worked as a telephone operator, a bookkeeper at Canadian Propane and a bookkeeper at Sunset Seed Company. With her husband Tony they ran a convenience store in Erickson in the 1950’s called “The Spot” and later enjoyed selling and renting travel trailers as a side business to their family farm. Laura ventured into the craft business in her retirement years starting Beuna Vista Crafts. She was capable of making almost anything with a piece of fabric and sewing machine.

Laura loved learning. She was continually upgrading her knowledge with various courses, attending Toastmasters and traveling near and far with close companions from Creston. She was actively involved in community functions and a director on the Creston and District Credit Union. She was a supporter and volunteer for figure skating, minor hockey and minor baseball and was honored to be selected to participate in the Olympic torch-bearing relay through Creston in 1988.

Most of all, Laura loved and cherished her family and made every occasion together with children and grandchildren a special one. She will be greatly missed by all of them.

Laura was predeceased by her husband Tony; her father and mother George and Bessie Ramseier; her sisters Margaret Johnson, Edna Anderson, Alice Brown and Ella Walder and her brother Wilfred Ramseier.
