In Loving Memory ~
L. Darlene Thompson was a long time Creston resident & passed away peacefully on March 15, 2023 at the age of 85. Darlene was born in Trail, BC & lived there with her mother Editha McLaren Clark who was born in Wycliffe, BC. Darlene was joined by three other sisters, Judy (also born in Trail), Donna and Wendy (born in Kimberley).
At age thirteen Darlene was baptized in the Creston Presbyterian Church and in her youth received the Royal Conservatory of Music accreditation in Piano.
In 1951 Darlene Hinch met Merlin Thompson and fell in love and three years later they were married on September 25, 1954 in Coeur d'Alene, ID, USA. Darlene & Merlin had six beautiful daughters: Heather, Lorie and Debbie (twins), Patty, Shelley & Carrie.
Merlin and Darlene were able to celebrate 66 wedding anniversaries before Merlin's passing on January 7, 2022. Darlene dearly missed his presence in the year that followed.
Darlene, our mother, worked tirelessly for her whole life for her family. With dedication and hard work, Darlene raised her six girls and found great pleasure with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Darlene could grow a garden! Together with Merlin, they grew a well-tended and diverse garden. Fall was a busy time of canning and her resourcefulness was remarkable! You could always count on a delicious homemade treat and cup of coffee at her table. Her dinner buns & cinnamon buns were legendary.
Darlene is survived by her six daughters, thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren, and two sisters, Donna Young and Wendy Killick.
Our mother was there her whole life for us, & her family.....
We believe one of the greatest losses one can have in life is the loss of a Mom.
There is no one else, under Heaven, that we are more attached to.
Until Mom's last breath, the one person who always loves & cares for us, was our Mother.
What a gift to us her LOVE has been.....
