It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Larry Gordon Southwood. Larry passed away at the age of 62 with family by his side on Friday, July 19, 2019 at the Foothills Hospital, Calgary Alberta.
Larry was born in Calgary and moved to Creston in 1972 with his family. Over the years, Larry lived in Calgary, Creston, Rocky Mountain House, and lately Cranbrook and Kootenay Lake. Larry developed an interest in music at a young age and he became an accomplished drummer performing in many bands through the years. His musical passion resulted in a 3000+ vinyl collection. Larry also found much enjoyment in spending time at the lake, reading, and carpentry.
Larry was a gentleman with a kind heart and a smile. He fought hard for his life and was a true inspiration admired by all. He will be remembered for his big hugs, quick wit, patience and wisdom.
Larry is survived by his love Gillian Messinger and her son Charlie; his children Lee (Megan), Nolan (August); his sister and brother-in-law Donna and Mel Tissington and long-time friends Barry and Brenda Bullock. He will forever be missed and always remembered by his nieces, nephews, and Messinger family. Larry was predeceased by his parents Gordon and Evelyn Southwood, and his sister Gayle Akins.
Thank you to our dear family and friends that provided support for Larry and Gill through his battle with heart disease. The family also thanks the Libin Cardio team of Calgary and Dr. Wik of Cranbrook for the care and support for the past three years. Larry so appreciated every extra day that he was given by their expertise and care.
Larry's request was not to a have a formal service. In lieu of cards or flowers, the family is asking you to make a donation to the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta in Larry's memory.
