Kenneth Jack Hughes

Kenneth Jack Hughes passed away November 8, 2012 in Cranbrook, BC at the age of 80 years.


Ken was born on June 19, 1932 in Spokane, WA. He spent his early childhood in Rossland, BC. Later Ken moved around to numerous places including Ocean Falls, BC, Vancouver, BC and Beaver Lodge, AB. While in Beaver Lodge, Ken worked with his stepfather farming. When Ken left home at age fourteen, he worked in the logging industry and spent time on the MacKenzie River Tugs. At twenty-one, Ken joined the Canadian Navy for twenty-one years and then the Coast Guard for fourteen years.


When Ken was not at work, he loved being in the bush, hunting and fishing with his friends, and in later years prospecting.

After retirement, he moved to Creston, BC where he worked for the Ambulance Service, as well as other part time jobs. He was also involved in many organizations such as being the President of the Creston Valley Figure Skating Club, Citizens on Patrol, Eagles, Masons and he became known as the Cotton Candy and Sno-Kone Man.


Ken will be dearly missed by his wife Herta; son Carson (Katherine); grandchildren Craig and Eric and daughter Stephanie.


Ken did not want a funeral.

“I don’t want anyone moaning or dripping over me”. Therefore, a wake will be held on Sunday, January 20, 2013 from 4:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion.
