With profound sadness we announce the passing of Keith Hare and in loving memory of Georgie Hare.
Keith passed away peacefully on June 26, 2019 in Creston, B.C. at the age of 96 years. Born in Castor, AB. Keith grew up in the Calgary, AB and the Sundre, AB area. At the age of 19, Keith started work in Calgary, AB at CP Rail which lead to a 43-year career with CP/VIA Rail until his retirement in 1985. During his career Keith took a leave from CP Rail to serve his country and was proud to be a veteran. A couple of years after Keith retired, he took up golfing and became an avid golfer until he was 92 years old. Keith was a Lions Member and was very active in the community. Keith had the wonderful sense of humor and was always telling his jokes to everyone he met. Keith was quite social and would often come home hours later after just running to the grocery store for a jug of milk or a loaf of bread. Keith had the gift to sell people raffle tickets, Overwaitea cards, Lions chocolate Easter bunnies (no one could ever say no to Keith).
Georgie left us peacefully on June 1, 2017 at the age of 78 years after a long and courageous battle against cancer. Georgie was born in Vegreville, AB and grew up on the family farm outside of Lavoy, AB She moved to Edmonton and then to Calgary where she worked for CP Rail where she met Keith. Georgie loved sewing and eventually took up quilting. Georgie loved travelling, going on adventures and was up for anything. Georgie was an active member of the Lioness Club in Canmore, AB until she moved to Creston, B.C. Georgie lived a full life as a devoted mother, grandma and friend to all whose lives she touched.
Keith and Georgie were married in 1964 and moved to Banff, AB in 1968 until they moved to Canmore, AB in 1975. They resided in Canmore, AB until moving to Creston, B.C. in 2009. Keith and Georgie traveled to Japan, China, Australia, New Zealand and would always spend a month in the Maui for many years. Keith and Georgie were the beloved parents of Laura, Thomas and Cheryl, proud grandparents of Koen, Nicole, Nate, Kaleigh, Amber & Jessica. Most of all, Keith and Georgie loved their family and instilled strong values that have served them well, they will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Keith & Georgie will be lovingly remembered by their children, Laura Hare, Thomas (Susan) Hare, Cheryl Mickelson; grandchildren, Koen and Nate Peterson, Nicole and Amber Hare, and Kaleigh and Jessica Mickelson. They were predeceased by their son-in-law Terry Peterson.
Keith is survived by his brother Marshall Hare as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Keith is predeceased by his wife Georgie Hare, his mom Elizabeth & dad Thomas Hare, by his brother Frank (Joyce) Hare, by his sister Dorothy (Ernest) Harland and sister-in-law Margaret Hare.
Georgie is survived by her Uncle Cecil Weetman, brother Walter (Bernice) Raper, Allan (Lisa) McCutcheon, Brenda Straton, Edie McCutcheon as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Georgie is predeceased by her mom Vera Raper and dad Wilfred Raper, sister Shirley (Leroy) Eaton, sister Irene (Al) McKay.
A Service for Keith Hare will be held at New Life Church on July 27, 2019 at 1:30 pm.
