Joseph Valery Van de Cappelle, known to many as Joe Cappelle, 78 years old, from Creston, BC, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 15, 2013.


He was born to parents Amelia and Petries Van de Cappelle on August 7, 1935 in Wyneghem, Belgium. Joe came to Canada with his family in 1947. They settled in the Peace River Country on a ranch where he grew up. Joe raised his family and ranched in the Harmon Valley while maintaining what became a life long career in the oil patch. He eventually moved to Creston in 1994 with his bride Lavina.

Joe was a man of many hobbies and talents. His love of growing things started with a single peach tree and grew to an orchard. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, cooking and hunting. Joe retired from the oil patch in 2005, devoting himself fulltime to life in Creston. Jos was well known for his wine making and was a member of the Boswell Vintners. He was very social and had a wide circle of friends old and new.

Joe is predeceased by his father, mother, a son, a daughter and a granddaughter.


He is survived by his bride, Lavina; his four children: David, Shane (Carrie), Pamela (Danny) and Dale (Stacy); three stepchildren: Tracy, Kathy (Bill) and Debbie (Dan); eighteen grandchildren: Jonathan, Naomi, Ty, Kurt, Cory, Jeffrey, Jordan, Melissa, Sophie, Bridgitte, Kassandra, Nathanial, Julia, Austin, Jackie, Devon, Lee, Calista and four great-grandchildren: Gage, Charlotte, Jude and Elias. Joe is also survived by five sisters, two brothers and countless friends.


A Celebration of Life Service was held Saturday, August 24, 2013. Cremation has taken place and interment will take place at a later date.
