It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of John Richard Huscroft. John died unexpectedly in Kelowna on February 20, 2022, at the age of 76 years.
John was born April 3, 1945, to parents Kate and Ken Huscroft in Creston, BC. John was a devoted family man, an avid pilot (soloing on this 16th birthday) a car and truck enthusiast (driving logging trucks and an Austin-Healey as a teenager) and became a business owner who was passionate about helping people and supporting the community. After growing up in logging camps and Lister, he moved to Calgary, to attend Mount Royal College. Later he moved to Vancouver, where he managed the band "5 Man Cargo" and completed a business diploma at Vancouver City College. Upon returning to Creston, he started John Huscroft Trucking Ltd., hauling logs for the local sawmills, and then he opened Creston Truck Service Ltd., a truck repair shop and dealership. He also co-founded Nordic Distributors Ltd., a local and long-haul trucking company. In 1975, John married Carol Herchmer, who became his partner, both in raising their three children and managing his businesses. John was very social and throughout his life of logging, trucking, flying, and community service, John built an enormous network of associates who invariably became life-long friends, and he also remained close to all of his extended family and many distant relatives, calling everyone frequently.
John believed in giving back to the community and was awarded the 2021 Creston Citizen of the year award for all his work in the valley. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, where he secured and oversaw the creation of the current office location, and also a member of the Creston Valley Rotary Club, where he was involved in building many local parks and trails. He also served the Creston Valley Blossom Festival Committee, the Kootenay-Columbia Discovery Centre, and together with Carol, supported the Creston Valley Thundercats by billeting many hockey players. His most recent project has been creating a monument to the legacy of Clarence Lang and the Golden Centennaires, which we hope will continue.
John was pre-deceased by his parents, Ken Huscroft and Kate Huscroft (nee Riddell), his sister-in-law, Dulce Huscroft, and his nephew, Larry Telling.
John is survived by his wife Carol Huscroft, children Nicole (Tyler) Nixon, Traven (Tiesja) Huscroft, Jennifer (Thomas Baumbach) Huscroft, grandchildren Tori Fleming, Donna Huscroft, Ben Nixon, Julia Huscroft, Kennedy Nixon, Hazel-Victoria Baumbach, Isobel Nixon, Mathias-Alexander Baumbach, Silven Huscroft, Amelia Baumbach-Huscroft, Remington Huscroft, as well as his siblings Warren (Kalen), Gwen (Richard), Ruth (Ian), Kevin (Patricia), Barry (Angeline), Jean (Patrick), Derek (Melanie), Roselle, Hilory (Jayson), his sister-in-law Laurie (Paige), as well as many nieces and nephews, and their children.
A Funeral Service will be held on April 2nd, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Creston and District Community Complex.
