Joan Margaret Campsall (nee Meeker)

July 1, 1934 ~ September 6, 2011

Joan Margaret Campsall was born in Battleford, Saskatchewan to James Lloyd and May Millicent (nee Garland) on Canada’s Birthday July 1, 1934, the youngest of six children. Her family moved from Saskatchewan to Creston in 1942. They then moved near Meadow Brook outside of Kimberley, BC. After a time, another move was to near Wycliffe, BC to a tree farm. It was there that Joan met Alfred Roy Campsall and they were married May 8, 1963 in the home of Ida L. Phillips, Alfred’s sister.

Alfred and Joan moved to the Creston area to be in a warmer farming area that both enjoyed. On January 8, 1995, Alfred passed away. Joan continued living in their home until ill health forced her to move into a Creston care facility in 2006.

Joan will always be remembered for her quick smile, wit and friendliness. She will also be remembered for her dancing skills and ability to win big at Bingo. Joan enjoyed the company of her stuffed animals that she won at Bingo. She kept them with her at all times, even when going to meals or activities, giving them a ride on her walker. When asked how she was doing, she would say “I’m toughing it out”! Then also explain that God was in control and she relied on Him.

Although not well, Joan wanted to keep her mind active. She was a budding artist as indicated by all the drawings and pictures she coloured. Her favourite animal was the elephant.

On the Friday before her passing, Joan was in great spirits and seemed unusually active. When friends reminded her that there was music at 1:30 pm, she quickly got up and headed for the events area so she could dance to the music. Apparently Joan had quite a reputation to uphold as a dancer.

Joan is survived by one sister, Myrtle Rous (Meeker) who lives in Claresholm, Alberta.

Joan's Funeral Service was held at 1:00 pm on Monday, September 12, 2011 at McPherson Funeral Home, 2200 - 2nd Street South, Cranbrook, BC (ph: 250-426-3132).
