In Loving Memory (1949-2022) ~
James "Mac" Scott passed unexpectedly in Wynndel on May 31, 2022 at the age of 72.
Mac was born in Fernie, BC in 1949 to James and Hilda Scott, before moving to Creston when his dad helped to open the Kokanee Brewery.
Mac is survived by Gail, his wife of 42 years, his daughter Selena (Nathan), and his much beloved granddaughter Eloïse.
Mac attended Princes Charles Secondary School where he was a celebrated track and field athlete before graduating in 1967. He stayed involved in many sports throughout his life, including broomball, curling, canoeing, and cross-country skiing.
After graduation, Mac went on to a full career in the Canadian Armed Forces. Mac's service saw him and his family stationed around the country, in Beaver Lodge (AB), Alsask (SK), Goosebay (NL), Kingston (ON), Debert (NS), Carp (ON), Lowther (ON), and Calgary (AB).
After 25 years of military service, Mac retired and worked for General Dynamics for 10 years before truly retiring with Gail to Wynndel in 2004.
Sparked by his years as a Creston Boy Scout, Mac had an immense love of and respect for the outdoors. He was appreciated as an experienced and skilled hunter, fisherman, camper, and general outdoorsman who shared his knowledge of nature with friends and family throughout his life. He had extensive knowledge of the Kootenay region and always had an interesting snippet of history to share.
In retirement, Mac took great pride in his impressive hobby orchard and garden, generously giving all of his produce to friends, family, and neighbours throughout the years. He loved to spend time on his property with his granddaughter Eloïse, especially taking her for tractor rides and teaching her about gardening. She could light up his face like nothing else.
Mac's love of travel and adventure was shared with his wife and daughter as they spent countless summers driving across Canada and the US together, exploring new places and returning to old favourites like Yellowstone National Park and Vancouver Island.
Although a quiet man, Mac will be remembered for his humour, great storytelling, regional knowledge, and generosity. He is and will be greatly missed.
