(Ivy) FREDA Brooker
Dec. 29 1920 – Jan. 5 2010
With heavy hearts the family of Freda Brooker announce her passing at the Calgary Foothills Health Centre on Jan. 5, 2010 in her 90th year.
Freda is survived by five children: Ian (Faye) Brooker; Glenda (Gene) Borson, Brian (Pat) Brooker, Brenda Brooker, Fred (Dayle) Brooker; son-in-law Wayne Charbonneau, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson; as well as one sister in England. Freda was predeceased by Tom, her husband of 65 years; daughter Barbara Charbonneau; grandson JB Brooker; great-grandson Michael Pezzi and son-in-law Alfred Beaurgard.
Freda was born in Sissinghurst, Kent, England on Dec. 29, 1920, the second youngest of 10 children. In 1940 Freda married Tom Brooker and in 1948 she, Tom and their two eldest children immigrated to the Condor and Leslieville areas of Alberta where they both farmed and lived in town. In 1961 they moved to Calgary where Freda worked as a Homemaker for Calgary Catholic Family Services, and at both the Col. Belcher Hospital and the Salvation Army Children’s Village.
In 1978 Tom and Freda retired to Creston, B.C. where they enjoyed 25 years of good health, making many friends by being very active in the community and the Anglican Church. In 2002 Freda was honoured with the Woman of Distinction Award in celebration and honor of her life-time commitment to family and community well being.
As their health deteriorated, Tom and Freda moved back to Calgary and then Airdrie to be with their children. Following an unfortunate fall in 2006 Freda moved into the George Boyack Nursing Home where she lived until a serious illness took her life the evening of Jan. 5, 2010.
In accordance with Freda’s wishes there will be no funeral service. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Foothills Hospital Unit 47 and to her loving care givers at George Boyack Nursing Home. Your many kindnesses will not be forgotten.
