Irene Chizura Yamakawa, lovingly known as "Grams" by her family and friends, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2023, in Creston, B.C. Born in Natal, B.C., on December 29, 1947.
Irene was a dedicated and hardworking woman who served as a cashier at OWT for over 20 years. Irene founded the Judo Club in Creston.
Known for her love of orchids, Irene nurtured over 40 of these beautiful plants. She had a deep love for her family and friends, cherishing every moment she spent with them. Irene was a straight shooter, always telling things as they were, and never shied away from expressing her opinion.
She was a woman who lived life on her own terms, and her strong will and spirited personality will be greatly missed.
Irene leaves behind a loving family that includes her daughter, Lora-Lee Dodman (Rick); her granddaughters, Ashley Dodman (Scotty) and April McPhee (Ben); and her great-granddaughters, Chihero and Sylvia. Son Shane Hale (Wendy).
She also leaves her siblings: Hiroshi Yamakawa (Dale), George Yamakawa (Sharon), and Mitzi Doucette (Ed).
Irene's friendships were as cherished as her family bonds, and she will be greatly missed by her dear friends, Bob, Anna, Julie, and Margaret.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers in the Pioneer Wing at Swan Valley Lodge. Their kindness, compassion, and dedication made a significant difference in Irene's life, and for this, the family will always be grateful.
