Hubert Ralph Goddard

April 7, 1930 ~ January 26, 2014

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Hubert Ralph Goddard at the Foothills Medical Centre, Calgary, Alberta.

Beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and father-in-law.

Ralph was born in Radway, AB. He had 9 brothers and 3 sisters. His family moved from the family farm in Thorhild, to Edmonton when he was eleven. He was encouraged by a principal to learn to Box, which he then turned into a profession! He had 54 bouts and only lost 2. He served in the Navy from 1949 to 1954 and then decided to join the Air Force, and served there from 1956-1983. He achieved the rank of Captain, which was quite a feat as he started out as a LAC.

Ralph was a decorated veteran who served his country for 32 years which included two tours of action aboard the HMSC Cayuga in the Korean conflict and a peace keeping mission in Yemen with the Air Force.

Ralph and wife Dawn retired to Creston in 1992. They enjoyed eight wonderful years on the lake and then moved into town in 2000. Once Dawn went into Swan Valley in 2008, Ralph became part of the Swan Valley family. He spent most of his days with Dawn, being a most dedicated husband. He said even though she could not remember him, he still remembered her.

Ralph was predeceased by his son, Garth.

He is survived by his wife Dawn, through 61 years of marriage; his two children Nuese (Don) and Tanis (Ken); his daughter-in-law, Sheila (Garth); his five grandchildren, Matthew, Evan, Nikayla, Carson and Jessey; four brothers, Norman, Neil, Wilbert and Conrad, and many nieces and nephews. He will be truly missed by all that knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the summer in the Okanagan. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in lieu of flowers would be appreciated.
