In Loving Memory ~
Horst Reutgen, 88, died peacefully at his home in Wynndel on February 11, 2022. He was born December 11, 1933 at Oberellen, Germany. He was the middle son of Karl and Dina (Pfanstiel) Reutgen.
Horst was a Forester by trade and escaped alone from East Germany as a young man. He went to 'the west' and was in the USA Navy with the Rhine River Patrol in the early cold war years. He immigrated, paying his own fare, coming to Calgary in 1956 on the ship Columbia. It snowed in the middle of June when he arrived on the train from Montreal. Horst worked construction and in his later years raised livestock.
His passion was hunting and being outdoors.
Surviving are his wife, a son and daughter-in-law, three grandchildren and his cat Kitty to mourn his loss. His parents, brothers and first cousins have preceded him.
The family is appreciative of the support from friends, neighbours and especially the many hands it took to make it happen for Horst to die at home as he wanted.
There will be a cremation and no service as requested by Horst. He lived a good and long life and he was not afraid of death.
In lieu of flowers, family and friends may make a contribution to PAWS.
