Hildegard was born in Germany on October 6, 1936 to Josef and Anna Hess. She emigrated to Canada in 1955 and graduated as class valedictorian from the Edmonton School of Nursing in 1959.
Hildegard raised her two daughters, and also parented foster children. She dedicated many years to being a Girl Guide Leader. Many young women learned strength and resilience from her.
Hildegard had an encyclopedic knowledge of all things thread and fabric. She belonged to the Quilt Guild and the Embroidery Guild in Creston where she made many friends and shared her skills with others. She also was an integral member of the group Quilts 4 Kids, and many a sick or troubled child has been lovingly and warmly wrapped in a quilt stitched by her.
Hildegard was predeceased by her parents Josef and Anna Hess and her daughter Anna Marie. She is survived by her daughter Loretta, Loretta's husband Robin and their children Connor and Bethany.
Memorial tributes may be made to the Creston Wildlife Centre, a place where Hildegard spent many happy hours.
