Herbert George Rennich

July 24, 1934 ~ October 19, 2013

Retired businessman and nature-lover, Herb Rennich has died at the age of 79.

Born in Veteran, Alberta, Herb was raised and educated at Carstairs, Alberta. After completing school, Herb joined his brother Henry in his seismic drilling business in the prairies. In the early 1960’s he moved with his family to Creston to work with his brothers Henry and Arnold to help build the Imasco rock plant at Sirdar. Subsequently, he managed successful trucking businesses for over 40 years with his brother Arnold. An experienced hunter and horseman, Herb also established a hunting guide outfitting business.

Herb loved to play, be it sports or games, including hockey, curling, waterskiing, scuba diving, skiing, fishing, trail riding, hunting and golfing. In his retirement, Herb enjoyed team roping with his nephew Justin Bambrick, winning ‘top header’ in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Herb’s passion for adventure led him to explore distant lands and foreign cultures, including the outback of Australia, hunting in the snowy mountains of New Zealand, visiting relatives in Germany and the UK, and perusing the ruins of ancient Egypt. In recent years Herb enjoyed a busy social life, playing cards and dancing with his many friends.

Remarkably, at the age of 65 he continued hunting and hiking in the mountains alongside his grandsons.

Herb was generous teacher, always willing to teach truck driving, horsemanship, or hunting skills. A supporter of the Creston community, Herb enjoyed coaching hockey and funded a softball team. Mostly, Herb enjoyed sharing time with family and friends and had a deep and loving appreciation for both.

In recent months Herb shared that he felt he had done everything he ever wanted to do in life.

He is survived by his soulmate and love of his life, Sonia; his children Bruce (wife Michele) Rennich, Lendina Bambrick (husband Terry), Douglas (partner Afroz) and Janice Melanson (husband Ron) and their mother Lillian. He was stepfather to Richard Davis (wife Michelle) and Jody Lee Rehm (husband Freddie). He has eleven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Herb was a free spirit who remained true to his inner wisdom to live a life rich with unbridled adventure and freedom.

We wish to invite everyone to make a contribution in memory of Herb to the Creston Valley Wildlife Centre online: www.crestonwildlife.ca.

Thank you.
