Helen Fofonoff

Helen Fofonoff of Creston, B.C. passed away peacefully at the F.W. Green Memorial Home in Cranbrook, B.C. on August 29, 2017 after suffering a stroke.


Helen was born on July 26, 1924 in Perrys Siding, B.C. Helen Sookorookoof of Shoreacres, B.C. married Harry Fofonoff in Creston, B.C. in 1945. They lived in the same home on Sunset Boulevard from that time until Harry's passing in 2002. Helen lived in the apartments next door for 10 years until relocating to the F.W. Memorial Home in Cranbrook, B.C. Helen worked at Creston Fruit Packers for 35 years. She was a member of the Hospital auxiliary and the Doukhobor Community of Creston. She enjoyed choir, as well as gardening and handcrafts. Caring for family and friends was very important to her.

Helen is predeceased by her husband Harry Fofonoff, two grandchildren, sisters Ann Relkoff, Laura Arishenkoff and Mable, who died as a child.

She is survived by her daughter Liz Newcomb (Don); son Gordon Fofonoff (Marilyn); three grandchildren: Ashley Newcomb, Kathe Turner, and Kristine Scherpenisse; and two great-grandchildren: Avery and Mia Scherpenisse.

The family would like to thank the staff at F.W. Green Memorial Home in Cranbrook, B.C. for their care during her stay and at the time of her passing.


A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 11:00am at G.F. Oliver Funeral Chapel, 225 15th Ave North, Creston, B.C., Peter Relkoff Officiating.
