Harry Morgan Tingley

Harry Morgan Tingley passed away suddenly but peacefully at Creston Valley Hospital on November 26, 2016.

Harry was born in Sackville, NB on March 20, 1933, seventh child of Harry and Ida (Hicks) Tingley.

Harry (Junior) had a long and eventful life. He started work for his father at the family bakery after school at the age of 12, and went on to work and own his own business (several over the years) until he finally retired at age 75, having sold our last business. Besides being a business owner, he was an icemaker - curling and arena ice. He was an avid curler and won many bonspiels, and loved golf which he still played; he even worked at the golf club one summer.

Harry was a Kinsmen, a member of the Sackville Golf Club; the Creston Golf Club; a curling member; three-term president at Sackville Curling Club (where he began his icemaking career); Schwarzwalk Curling Club, CFB Baden, Germany; Airdrie Curling Club, AB; Springbank Curling Club, AB; curler, icemaker and president of the Creston Curling Club; member of Sackville Golf Club; founding member of the Baden Hills Golf and Curling Club (helped the German members form their own club) and served on the Board of Directors; and member of the Creston Golf Club for 23 years.

Harry is predeceased by his mother and father; two half brothers Donald and Herman; brother Arthur; sisters Ruth Chisholm and Audrey Cormier; and brothers-in-law Adelard Cormier, Phil Chisholm, and Ron Fairweather.


Harry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Evelyn (nee McPhee); his daughter Donna Taylor of Creston; son Bruce of Calgary, AB; son-in-law Larry Taylor; three sisters: Edith Fairweather of Quispamsis, NB, Martha Schultz of Calgary, AB, and Merilyn Myra of Sussex Corner, NB; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Don and Shari (McPhee) Thompson, Holden, AB; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Janet (McPhee) and David Terrio; brother-in-law and his wife Vernon and Bonnie McPhee; five grandchildren: Amanda and Ryan Tingley, Shannon, Ashley, and Michael Sheppard; and six great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service was held on Monday, December 5 at 11am under the care of G.F. Oliver Funeral Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to cancer research.
