Harold Emery Emile Sundby, born July 7, 1942, passed away May 2, 2019 at the age of 76.
Hal was born in Fairview, Alberta and spent his early years in the Montagneuse Valley going with is dad on the trapline and doing farm chores. This is where his love for animals and the outdoors began. The family then moved to Fairview in 1949. Hal started raising chickens and rabbits in the backyard as a a young boy and learned to crochet from his mom. He was a wonderful artist, creating many works, of animals and people with paints and pencil.
Hal started pursuing a career in carpentry and cabinet making in 1960. He bought a farm in the David Thompson area, worked at a Canfor sawmill in Chetwynd, the McIntyre coal mine in Grande Cache, was the Edmonton Journal paper representative for the North Peace area, and was slashing line in camp jobs many winters.
Hal met Darlene Chipesia in 1976 and together they lived at the David Thompson farm until 1989. They had their children, Keith, Jann, Stella, Wade, Ashley and Lana, all born in Fairview. They decided to make a change and move to Creston B.C. area. They bought a house in Kitchener, where he continued his career building and renovating houses until his retirement. Hal was mayor of Kitchener for a number of years and had a part in the building of the water system and pipeline to the town. He was very involved with the community.
Hal was very well liked by everyone who knew him and was known for being quiet and soft spoken and loved visiting with friends and family. He will be sorely missed by his wife Darlene of 42 years, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and many friends.
Hal was predeceased by his daughter Lana, parents Harold and Lillian, and brother Johnny.
He is survived by: his wife Darlene, children Keith and daughter Samantha; Jann (Belinda) son Jenson; Stella and children Vincent, Joscelyn,and Devin; Wade; Ashley; Lana's sons Nathanial and Leon.
Children Noel (Janine) and children Amanda, Taylor, Janelle and Ben; Ivan and son Sterling; Robin (Lorin) and sons Jaxon and Katlan; Lyndon (Bonnie); Rhonda and sons Brandon and Dalton; Crystal and children Tristan, Keldon and Kimmy. Great grandchildren Dominic, Tuesday, Dayne, Anakin and Avrillee. Sisters Gail (Roger), Deanna (Bob), Phyllis (Larry), Pearle (Roger), Elaine (Vern), and Josie (Maurice).
