Gunter (Dutchie) Voigt

October 18, 1935 ~ March 31, 2016

Dutchie Voigt passed away peacefully March 31, 2016 at home, surrounded by his loving wife and daughters.

Dutchie Voigt was a remarkable husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Born in Berlin, Germany on October 18, 1935 he made his way to Canada at only 19 years old. Dutchie was a lifelong learner, showcasing his exceptional talent for the love of woodwork. As a master woodworker, Dutchie loved to create custom furniture, baby cradles and children's rocking horses for family and friends. His knack for building can be seen through the impressive model railroad village nestled in his basement. Every mountain, tree and building is lovingly designed to bring you into a whole new world. By trade he was a painter and contractor in Trail, B.C. for many years.

Dutchie was talented at anything he put his mind to; keeping fish in his home aquarium, an accomplished pool player, tinkering with cars and making an amazing home cooked meal. He was also an eloquent ballroom dancer. Everyone stopped to watch Dutchie and his wife Ingrid on the dance floor. Their polished and impeccable moves were whimsical to watch. He also loved an evening with family and friends playing cards and dice.

Dutchie had a distinguished look, a heart of gold and life full of so many wonderful memories. He had a special place in his heart for animals and children, which was evident from the love he had for his dogs and the time he spent playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dutchie will be forever in our hearts. Dutchie was predeceased by his mother, father, sister and stepson Jamie Rowsell.

He is survived by his wife and soulmate Ingrid Voigt; daughters Sonja (Garth) Forsyth and Tracey Voigt; son Shane Voigt; stepchildren Christina (Chad) Smith and James (Dina) House; fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kelowna Cancer Clinic in Gunter Voigt's name.
