Guiseppe Giella

May 21, 1929 ~ December 22, 2013

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Joe Giella on December 22, 2013, at his home in Wyndell, BC.

Guisseppe Giella was born May 21, 1929, to Guiseppe and Lucia in a small town called Petruro, in Italy. He was the oldest of four children. His parents worked very hard and Joe took on the task of cooking, cleaning and looking after his siblings at an early age. His father passed away when Joe was fourteen, and more responsiblity was put on him.

He took a job cutting trees by hand, and at 25 had the opportunity to come to Canada and work on the CPR. In 1954, he moved to Calgary and got a job in a gravel pit. Joe and Gisela got married on July 5, 1955. They had five children. In 1968 they decided to move to Erickson, BC, where they ran a small farm with lots of animals, huge gardens, and many fruit trees. Joe worked at Huscroft Sawmill, where he was well-liked and respected.

Joe and Gisela loved gardening, camping, hiking and biking. They moved to Wynndel where they still reside, and Joe could grow his grapes. He was a happy man who very much enjoyed visits with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; he was always laughing, smiling and joking.

Joe was predeceased by his parents Guiseppe and Lucia; sister Amelia; children Silvio and Marni; and daughter-in-law Jan.

He is survived by his loving wife Gisela; brother Perry; sister Antonia; children Lori (Daril), Perry and Heidi; grandchildren Nathan (Greta), Rosalee, Marnie (Iain), Joey, Jeremy, Erich, Jason and Robin; and great-grandchildren Bryden, Dominic, Maria and Lachlan.
