Gerald Thompson

On February 4, 2011 Gerald Thompson of Wynndel passed away at home at the age of 70 years surrounded by his family.

Gerald was born in Kamloops on June 30, 1940 to George and Laura Thompson. In 1967 he married Zonia Suzan Shyry in Toronto, Ontario. Gerry graduated from UBC in 1966 with a BSC in Wildlife Management. In 1967 he worked in Sudbury, Ontario as District Wildlife Biologist. In 1969 he moved to Calgary, Alberta and worked as a Regional Biologist with Fisheries. He attended U of C night classes and in 1975 obtained his Masters Degree in Aquatic Ecology. In 1978 he worked for Capital Development of Kananaskis Country Fish and Wildlife Division. He was regional director of Fish and Wildlife for four of the five Geographic Regions of Alberta. He and Suzan retired to Wynndel in 1995,Gerry volunteered with Handy Capable Housing, Wildlife Compensation Program (Columbia Basin), Breeding Bird Atlas, and the Wynndel Coffee House. He loved the outdoors and nature and saw it for it’s true beauty. He enjoyed wood-working, hunting, fishing and had a real love for music. He will be missed by his wife and soulmate, Suzan, his son Marshal, and Tammy Benz his daughter in law. He is also survived by his brother Tom and numerous nephews, nieces and close friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, donations to a charity of their choice would be appreciated.
