In Loving Memory ~

Dad was born on March 23, 1935, in Tuffnell Saskatchewan; the son of Mike and Domina Magera, and the middle of 13 children. It was hard work on the family farm for everyone, but also allowed for many memories. A few memories he shared is how they slept in a railcar and had rodeo nights with the livestock when the parents were away for the evening.

He married his love, Fay Abtosway from Foam Lake, Saskatchewan on Oct 21, 1961. They made their home in Saskatoon and had two daughters: Michele and Tracey.

Dad spent most of his working life in construction, which took him all over western Canada. You could mention many communities in those provinces and know that he would say they built something there.

Dad loved country music, the mountains, and horses. He lived his best cowboy life when he took part in the Foam Lake Heritage Wagon Treks.

In 1994, Dad and Mum left Saskatoon and made Creston, British Columbia home. Mum's life ended earlier than it should of in 1998. Dad remained in Creston and within a few years met Donna Heine who quickly became his partner in life, they remained together until his passing on Feb 5, 2024.

In their youth, the grandchildren loved spending time with Nanny and Grandpa (aka the Old Crow) exploring Creston and area, playing games and listening to his funny stories. Even as they became adults, they still looked forward to and cherished their visits with Grandpa and Donna in B.C.

Fred is survived by his partner Donna Heine; his children Michele (Murray) Derksen and their children, Dean (Kaylyne), great-grandchild Tatum; and Danielle (Dillon). Tracey (Burt) Zoerb and children J.J. (Robyn), Adam (Nicole) and great-grandchildren Lucas and Matthew; five sisters Nell, Elsie, Fran, Vicki and Jeannie and brother Cliff; Donna's children Shelly (David), Sid (Anita), Les, Don (Sherry) and several grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his wife Fay, several brothers, sisters and in-laws.

To honour Dad's wishes, there will be no service. Instead, as he always enjoyed a 'cold one' at happy hour, we invite you to celebrate his memory in your own way with a cold beverage of your choice.
