Oct 25, 1935 - Feb 22, 2018
Florence Helen Shannon passed away on February 22, 2018 in Strathmore, AB at the age of 82 years

Florence was born on October 25, 1935 in Three Hills, Alberta. She met Doug Shannon while still attending nursing school at the University of Alberta and, against the rules that nursing students must remain single, she and Doug married April 28, 1956 a few months before her actual graduation as a registered nurse.

Florence and Doug moved around Alberta and BC before settling in Creston, BC in April 1971. Throughout her career, she held a variety of nursing positions including pediatric head nurse in Dawson Creek, BC and as an operating room, emergency and outpatients nurse at Creston Valley Hospital. In the years prior to her retirement, she nursed at the Creston Pioneer Villa seniors' care home.

Florence was an excellent seamstress, sewing for herself and her family, and then for her grandchildren as her family grew. Although she never caught on to "pretend knitting" (crocheting), she enjoyed knitting, making a baby blanket for each of her grandchildren. She and Doug were avid gardeners, with Florence canning many of the fruits of their labour. She enjoyed reading, and even in her last few years was often found with a book in her hands.

Her family moved Florence to Strathmore, AB in 2013 so they could spend more time with her. She lived at Meadowlark Senior Care Home where staff ensured she was well cared for, including love and laughter on a daily basis. She happily assisted with the simple tasks of daily living, often asking what she could do to help. We are forever grateful for the home and care provided by Debbie Wakelam and the Meadowlark staff.

Florence was predeceased by her son Terry in 2006 and Doug in 2010. She will be dearly missed by her daughters Lanis (Terry) Lamont and Tracy (Pat) Bryans; grandchildren Jennilyn Shannon, Taradawn (Chad) Stiles and Corey Shannon, Kyle, Jason and Brady Lamont, Stacie (Creighton) Wright and Jesse (Shayna) Bryans; great-grandchildren Callan and Jack Wright, and Cooper Bryans, as well as nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service and interment will be held in Creston at a later date.
