Ferdinand (Ferry) Strobl

Ferdinand (Ferry) Strobl passed away on December 14, 2012 at the age of 81 years, after a battle with cancer. Ferry was born to parents Franz and Theresia Strobl on May 13, 1931 in Graz, Austria.


Ferdinand was an electrician while in Austria and when he first moved to Canada, in 1951, he worked in a coalmine in Fernie, BC. After this, he moved to Prince George and continued doing electrical work until he opened his own company. In 1967, he started AZU Ski Village at the Pine Pass and then in 1989 moved to Wynndel, BC to retire.

Ferry loved skiing, his floatplane, the mountains, the outdoors and especially his big family and all his friends.

Ferry was predeceased by his parents Franz and Theresia Strobl of Austria and his brother Franz Strobl of Austria; and Douglas Strobl of Salmon Arm.


He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Karla; children Ron (Caroline), Margit, Brenda, Jamie, Eric (Marjorie) and Joyann and many grandchildren.

Ferdinand’s ashes will be spread in his beloved mountains at the Pine Pass, BC in the summer of 2013.
