February 25, 1983 - April 12, 2020
It is with sadness we announce Eric's sudden passing in Calgary on April 12th, 2020. He is survived by his parents Don and Susan Low, brother Corey, girlfriend Kayla Bemon of Calgary, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Eric was born in Edmonton Alberta on Feb. 25th, 1983 to Tina Threefingers. He was adopted into our family six weeks later on Apr. 15, which we celebrated every year as "Eric Day". His earliest years were on the family farm at Blackfalds Alberta, then on to Lethbridge and Yoro, Madang Province, Papua New Guinea where we managed a cocoa plantation and lumber business. It is in Papua New Guinea that we discovered Eric's gift for languages. Being immersed in the common language Melanesian Pidgin, he was fluent within three months before going on to learn the local tribal language. We also witnessed his outgoing personality as he loved to socialize with children and adults alike wherever he went. He was five years old at this time.
After returning to Canada our family eventually settled in Creston in 1992. Eric attended South Creston Elementary School and then Prince Charles Secondary School, graduating in 2001. He enjoyed hockey and played in the Creston Valley Minor Hockey Association for most of his school years. After high school he spent some years in the oil patch in Alberta working as a truck driver.
Eric was a big boy who had a big laugh and a zest for life. He lived for the moment, which made him a fun guy to be around. He had many friends and his friendships were important to him. We have received many comments from friends and family about his big personality and his kind and caring heart.
Eric came into this world with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) caused by pre-natal alcohol exposure. He always wanted to excel, but FASD made it difficult for him to make good life decisions.
We have been very touched by the outpouring of concern and support for our family. Although this has been very difficult for us, we are sustained by this and by our faith.
We would like to thank the many people who have made a difference in Eric's life over the years - family, friends, teachers, coaches, counsellors, neighbours, and our church community.
In Eric's memory please help someone in need and remember that not all disabilities are visible.
