December 2, 1923 - October 25, 2019
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Elisabeth Schaer of Calgary on Friday, October 25, 2019 at the age of 95 years after a brief illness.
Elisabeth was the last surviving child of seven children born to Mina and Ernst Hofstetter, pioneers in organic market farming. She found the love of her life at a farmer's market in Zurich who she married in 1950. She immigrated to Edmonton, Canada with her husband and three daughters in 1957. There she worked alongside her husband in establishing three successful butcher shops and delicatessens.
Her skills in cooking were marveled at by the many friends and guests that were entertained in her home during the years she lived in Edmonton and Creston BC. Her love of knitting gifted many up until the last few months of her life when hands and eyesight began to fail her. She loved to garden, and this resulted in her home always displaying her "green thumb" ability with her envied houseplants or outdoor flower and vegetable gardens.
She will be most remembered for her soft spokenness and ever present smile no matter the trials or concerns she was bearing.
Elisabeth is survived by her three daughters, Maya Charlebois Jacobsen (Norman), Ruth Yesmaniski-Oghiagbevha (Emmanuel), Doris Schaer; nine grandchildren, Michael, Lisa, Timothy (Cristy), Terry (Nina), Matthew (Tanya), Jonathan, Christian (Elizabeth), Melanie (Aaron), David; fifteen great-grandchildren, Kaylen, Elyssa, Emery, Everly, Reece, Leah, Anakin, Daenerys, Lydia, Octavia, Renan, Niall, Silas, Madeline, Hannah; "adopted sons" Henry, Bob and Ernst; as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Switzerland.
Elisabeth was predeceased by her husband Hans; her three sisters and three brothers of Switzerland; and son in law David Yesmaniski of Calgary.
Funeral Services will be held at Mcinnis & Holloway Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB), on Friday, November 1, 2019 at 2 pm.
