Douglas Lyle Smith

December 5, 1956 ~ April 28, 2010

Douglas Lyle Smith passed away peacefully on April 28, 2010 at his home in Creston, BC at the age of 53 surrounded by his family.

Doug was born in Spirit River, Alberta on December 5, 1956. He was raised on the farm in Gordondale, AB where he lived and farmed with his mom and dad while working on the rigs until 1978; when he met the love of his life, Gloria Langelid Grant and her two boys Lars and David.

Doug, Gloria and the boys began their life together in Dawson Creek, BC where they were married on Oct 26, 1979 and welcomed their daughter Krista Dawn on May 30, 1980 in Fort St John. They relocated there as Doug had taken a position with Texaco Canada; this allowed him to be at home more with his family.

In 1992 Doug started his company, Eagle Eye Ventures Ltd. which became Road Runner Well Management Ltd. a few years later. Doug dedicated many years of hard work that brought much accomplishment and success that he was very proud of. He was a well liked and respected friend and business associate in the community. Doug worked until 2006 when his illness prevented him from doing the work he so enjoyed any longer.

Doug’s loves in life were first and foremost his family and friends. He also loved horses, spending time at the family farm, and later in life at his good friend Greg Rhyason’s Ranch. Doug loved kids and kids loved him. When Uncle Doug was around there was sure to be treats galore, teasing and once even a money tree.

Doug portrayed a gruff and often ornery cowboy but those who knew him saw through his tough exterior to his kind and selfless heart and soul.

Doug and Gloria loved to travel, alone or with their family and welcomed in the New Year of 2008 in Times Square, New York City, something they always dreamed of doing.

Two of the greatest joys in Doug’s life were his grandchildren Joshua Douglas and Jasmine Rose. After Doug was unable to work they filled his days with endless happiness and strengthened his will for his courageous battle against cancer.

Doug is survived by his wife Gloria, their children Lars, Dave and Krista and his two beautiful grandchildren Josh and Jazz. His siblings Dale (Patty), Marlene (Randy), Marty (Brenda), Denise (Art) and his brother in-law Oliver Langelid. Aunts: Verna (Joe), Ruth (Rueben), Darlene (Bill), and Thelma.
