Dorothy Catherine Blain

January 26, 1930 ~ April 23, 2015

Dorothy passed away peacefully on April 23, 2015.

Dorothy was born on January 26, 1930 and spent her childhood in Wolfe Island, Ontario. She married Cpl. Bill Blain in 1952 in Kingston, Ontario and they spent the next 20 years moving their family from RCAF Stations in Ontario, Germany, Quebec and Alberta. After retirement, they moved to the Creston Valley to a little home on a big lot. They built their dream home where they could see across the valley and all the mountains. Dorothy loved watching the birds and seeing the beautiful sunsets from their dining room window.

Dorothy was never idle, sewing dresses for her girls and later, knitting sweaters for her grandchildren. She studied oil painting, and gave many paintings away to anyone who wanted them. She loved to read and do crossword puzzles, knit, crochet and sew. She bought many cross-stitch kits from the Gleaners, which she would finish and then donate it back to the Gleaners or give it to a friend or neighbour.

Dorothy enjoyed her morning coffee at 6:00 am with her 'Breakfast Club' friends and had many pleasant Thursday lunches with the 'ladies who lunch'. She could be counted on the make the coffee for the Tuesday afternoon Rotacrest dances, and yes, she danced too! She played crib some Wednesday evenings, bingo some Friday mornings and loved going out with the 'Supper Group' on Friday evenings.

Dorothy was pre-deceased by an infant son Robert in 1958 and by Bill, her husband and love of her life, in 2008.

She leaves behind daughters Ruth (Kerry) MacKenzie, Faye Oszli, Lorna (Tom) Stanford, Arley (Dave) Haner; as well as seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, brothers- and sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family sends a special thank you to Dorothy's dear neighbours and friends who visited her in the hospital. Her family would also like to thank all the staff of Creston Valley Hospital who treated her with such care and comfort.

At Dorothy's request, there will be no service.
