Donald Fairweather

September 20, 1941 ~ May 10, 2016

On May 10, 2016, Don passed away quietly in his bed at home – just the way he wanted. His long battle with COPD, emphysema and IPF was finally over.

Don was born in Calgary, AB on September 20, 1941. He was raised on the family farm located west of Calgary, which imbedded a deep love of the outdoors and animals, particularly his love of dogs.

He attended Bowness High School, where he met many life-long friends. When he was 17, he went to Olds Agricultural College for a two year course and afterwards returned to help his family on the farm until he decided to become an electrician.

He graduated from S.A.I.T. in 1967, the same year he married Sandi. In that year, they bought their first home, purchased Farmer’s Electric and Supply and had their son Greg. Tracie was born a couple of years later and the family lived in Bowness until 2000.

While Don had Farmer’s Electric & Supply, he worked for many of the local farmers and the Stoney Tribal Administration in Morley, AB. In 1975, he started working full time in Morley, AB. He retired from there in 1999 when he began to build their retirement home in Sundre, AB. They lived there until 2008 when they moved to Creston, B.C.

Don was predeceased by his parents George and Katie, his brother Jack and sister Georgina (Georgie).

He is survived by his sister Jean; wife Sandi; son Greg and daughter Tracie (Kerwin) Morrison; grandchildren: Alix (Kenny), Vollet, Chad, Kristen, Trevor and Keri; one great-grandson Kaysen; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of long-time friends.

Don loved animals, sports, history and puttering around in the yard. He loved to tease and had a unique sense of humour. He will be missed in so many ways.
