Donald (Dingy) John Laing

May 19 1936 ~ December 13, 2016

Dingy passed away peacefully after a brave fight with cancer on December 13, 2016.

Don made many friends in his lifetime and always had funny “quips” that would bring a loud laugh from everyone who heard them. A lot of these sayings will be fondly remembered.

Dingy always had a great time with his buddy Colvin McBurney, Joy and their three sons, Tyler, Danny, and Jay. The two families camped and holidayed together every weekend.

Don enjoyed his times with the class of ’55 at all the reunions they hosted.

He retired to Riondel from Cranbrook and enjoyed fishing and was the president of the Boat Club for many years.

In Dingy’s younger days he was into sports. He played hockey and baseball for Bill’s Menswear. Don also rode buckin’ broncos in rodeos and had great times with his “Cowboy buddies”. He worked for Columbia Brewery from 1968 to retirement age. While in Creston he coached a boys' baseball team and enjoyed his job as their coach.

He is predeceased by his parents Jack and Eva Laing, long-time residents of the Cranbrook area; his son Daryl and his sister Betty-Jean.

Dingy leaves behind to mourn his passing his “Bride” of 57 years, Marylou, who he married on October 30, 1959; his two daughters: Shelley Laing and Sharla (Dennis) Marchi; three grandchildren: Taryn (Chris) Blair, Landon Marchi and Garrett Marchi, the three shining stars in his eyes and heart; great-grandchild Ella Blair; sisters Lorraine Miles and Darlene (Kent) Holmes; and brother Brian (Glady) Laing.

A Service will be held Friday, December 30, 2016 at 1 pm at G.F. Oliver Funeral Chapel.

Don will be missed by many friends, relatives and family.
