June 21, 1931 - September 26, 2020
David T. Mulligan (b:1931), formerly of Creston, BC, retired to that celestial farm with endless ice cream and cranberry sauce on September 26, 2020 at his home in Abbotsford surrounded by family.
He led a very rich and full life and had many adventures with his wife Maryann and sons, Sean and Dean. Dave was a caring and thoughtful husband and father and we have fond memories from not only life on the farm but also from camping trips and travels.
Dave moved to Creston from Nobleford, Alberta in 1942 and in 1952 left for Vancouver to study carpentry at Vancouver Vocational Institute. He began his apprenticeship with Provincial Construction which was owned by Woodwards and worked in Edmonton for a period of time until the company closed.
After this, he was a carpenter for a variety of other construction companies and, notably, worked on Vancouver's second tallest building located at Burrard and Georgia.
In 1962, he purchased 600 acres of farmland on Nicks Island North Road by Kootenay River in the Creston Valley where he farmed grain and a variety of certified grass seeds. In 1970 he married Maryann (Friesen) at Bethel Mennonite Church in Aldergrove in a marriage ceremony conducted by Maryann's father Rev. N.N. Friesen.
They raised their 2 boys in a farmhouse and later in a house that Dave completed building in 1978. In 1994, he retired and moved with Maryann into Creston where they lived until moving to Abbotsford, BC in 2016.
In Creston, Dave was active in the community acting as the chairman of Nicks Island Diking District for 32 years. He also served in various roles with the Grain and Seed Growers Association, Kootenay Dehydrators Ltd, The Erickson District Water Board and the Creston Valley Home Support Board. Dave also began to attend Erickson Covenant Church in Creston, becoming a member and serving on the executive board as treasurer for 10 years.
We miss him greatly.
Dave is survived by his wife; Maryann; his children; Sean and Dean; his daughter's-in-law Linda and Kyla; and his grandchildren, Andrew, Aaron and Gemma.
