David (Dave) Melville Phypers passed away on January 1, 2014 at the age of 70 years.

Born and raised in the Creston Valley, Dave lived a full and varied life, but more than anything he did or had, the love of his family, his wife Diane, son David, daughter Melissa and his six grandchildren were utmost in his life. Their whereabouts took him many times across Canada; north to south, east to west. He was always interested in everything his siblings and their families were doing. Love and concern for family was evident by his involvement in their lives, from lending a helping hand, officiating at many of their weddings, providing advice or a listening ear, ‘Uncle Dave’ was there if you needed him.

Dave left Creston at the age of sixteen to work in Calgary. In 1962 he went to Surrey, BC to work. There he met and married his wife Diane in 1964.

Dave returned to Creston after a 20-year absence to live a more rural lifestyle, which included raising hogs and cattle - something he really enjoyed.

Through the years he loved to ride his Harley, enjoying trips with friends and international travel, which included Asia, Europe and tropical destinations.

Over the last decade Dave found pleasure in collecting old tractors, often detouring at great lengths to visit other like-minded collectors.

He was best known in the valley for being a loyal friend to many and being one of the hardest working men you’ve ever met. To many he was known as ‘Super Dave’ because of his skill, dedication and unwavering work ethic.

Above all, he had a firm and lasting faith that sustained him throughout his life, especially the last few months.

Dave was predeceased by his father George Alfred Phypers in May 2000.

Dave is survived by his wife Diane; son Dave (Lee); daughter Melissa Phypers (Gilles Monvoisin); granddaughters Annaliese, Daena, Kacie Shaylagh, Amelie; grandson Ethan; his mother Sarah Mathilde; brothers and sisters Marie (Maurice) Taylor, Dorothy (Ted) Morton, George 'Geordy' (Jean), Elizabeth 'Bessie' (Jim) McGeachy, Ruth (John) Morton, Daniel (Pearl), Phillip (Charmene), Lois Phypers, Stephen (Diane), Eunice (Tony) Mulder, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held in April 2014.

Those wishing to make a memorial contribution may do so to the charity of your choice.
