After 87 years of selfless dedication to her family and community Connie Clarke, nee Audrey Gleeson, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family after a brief illness.

She was predeceased in 2016 by her husband of 64 years, Pat Clarke and by her brother, Michael Gleeson in 2009. Connie is survived by her children, Terry (Mike), Chris (Debi), Kate (Ron) and Cameron (Claudine), grandchildren Chelsea (Daniel), Geoffrey, Sarah and Spencer, and great-grandchildren Nathanial and Alexander.

The indomitable team of Pat and Connie began during their high school years in Abbotsford and continued for almost 70 years. They lived in Guelph, Mission, Maple Ridge, Creston and finally settled in Brentwood Bay in 1984.

During these years they worked together to raise four children as well as to build and operate a veterinary practice all the while contributing to the community through volunteer work. They enjoyed travelling together and for 30 years they spent their summers navigating the waters of the BC coast in their beloved sailboat Osprey.

Connie dedicated over 50 years of her life in volunteer service to the support of people with developmental disabilities at the local, provincial and national level.

The legacy of the effort that she spearheaded in the early 1980's resulted in the formation of the present day Victoria Community Resources Society. The mandate of this society is to provide people with developmental disabilities the ability to live in, and be active members of the community rather than confined to large institutions often located hundreds of miles from their families.

Connie's life was truly a life well lived and in many respects was a woman ahead of her time. She left a small footprint on this earth but a lasting impact on the lives of all who knew and loved her.

The family will host a celebration of Connie's life from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Goward House, 2495 Arbutus Road, Victoria.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Victoria Community Resources Society or a charity of your choice are welcome.
