February 26, 1936 - July 22, 2023
In loving memory ~
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Clifford (Cliff) Hawkins on July 22, 2023. Cliff was born in Canyon, B.C., on February 26, 1936. Soon after his birth, the Hawkins family settled in Crawford Bay. Other than a brief stint during his teenage years, when Cliff moved to Nanaimo to work as a logger, the east shore and Crawford Bay were always home. In 1962 he married his sweetheart Carol (née Wagner from Trail) and together made Crawford Bay home and raised a family. Cliff spent his life as a faller/logger and was at home in the mountains throughout the Kootenays and much of B.C. Along with logging, Cliff loved being outdoors hunting, fishing, trapping, and sharing the secrets of the area. Cliff leaves behind his wife of 62 years Carol, Children Roy (Viki), Glen (Jenai) (grandchildren Keatley, Drayden, Kyah and Brynden) and Janet. After retiring from the logging industry Cliff did not put down his saw, but rather fueled his passion for cutting wood and feeding his wood stove, which rarely went out over the years. The family would like to thank the expert care he received in recent weeks, starting with the East Shore First Responders, the Cranbrook ICU staff, and the staff at the Creston Hospital. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
A private interment will take place at the Crawford Bay cemetery on August 5, followed by an open house from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
