December 28, 1940 - May 3, 2019
Claudia passed away peacefully May 3, 2019, at the age of 78, after a courageous battle with cancer in Creston B.C.
Born on December 28, 1940, Claudia was raised in Winnipeg and became a dedicated Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Aunt, Nana and Great Grandma. Always with a fine sense of humor and relentless energy, Claudia sought out all that life had to offer.
Claudia and her beloved husband Doug provided a solid center to a busy family of 5. During this time and later into her wonderful life she was a great participator in many things: speed skating, badminton, tennis, curling and bowling were her top favorite sports with golf as the activity she became the most passionate about, especially sharing the golf greens with Doug.
Claudia's favorite hobbies were crafting, with quilting becoming her focus and giving her the most pleasure. In addition, she was an avid card player (especially bridge and cribbage), she enjoyed gardening and was a great lover of books.
Throughout all of these activities her love for creating culinary delights for others remained a common thread. As the devoted and caring wife to Doug - an air force officer early in their marriage, and afterwards he worked as a civil engineer - Claudia loved to entertain and be entertained. Her friends in Creston can attest to that!
Early on, she also thrived as a Tupperware dealer and later, as part of a team within a Yukon jewelry shop. She showed the most passion as an educator with the Tourism Industry Association of the Yukon.
Lately, above all else, Claudia was a community-minded person. Always with a ready smile or an available shoulder, her vibrant and positive personality shone light on those around her and wherever she went. After her wedding in 1961, she lived in many places: France, Edmonton, Winnipeg, San Antonio, Ottawa, Chilliwack, and Whitehorse. It was her final move to Creston which enabled her to be a dynamic community member. Whether she was at the Trinity United Church volunteering at the Wednesday lunches, preparing Christmas Hampers, or helping at functions at the Creston Golf Club, these traits were what drew people to her. Her indomitable spirit and lifeforce were strong even to the time of her passing. Claudia was well-love and she knew it with all her heart.
Claudia is predeceased by her father, Frederick McRae and mother, Gwen McRae of Winnipeg, MN.
Claudia is survived by her loving husband Douglas Campbell of Creston BC, her sister Dorothy McMicking (Darryl) of Victoria BC, her daughters Tracy Sauchenko (Mike) of Grande Prairie AB, and Kelly Baker (Jim) of Whitehorse YK and her son Bruce Campbell of Vancouver, BC. She is also survived by her loving grand children: Mark Sauchenko (Alexandra) of Whitecourt AB, Sarah Sauchenko (Chris Driscoll) of Charlottetown, PE, and Kienna Baker (Logan Florkiewicz) of Whitehorse, Yukon. Last but surely not least, she loved and will always be loved by her great grandson, Beckett Sauchenko Whitecourt, AB.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff - particularly Kathe Cloak - at the Creston Valley Hospital for their care and support for Claudia and Doug at this difficult time.
A sincere and special thank you also goes out to the Creston Golf Club for the beautiful touches they made for our private family gathering at the golf course.
