Christy Elissa Johnston

September 5, 1940 ~ June 4, 2015


Christy passed away at Swan Valley Lodge, Creston on June 4, 2015 from complication from a stroke at the age of 74 years.

Christy was born September 5, 1940 in Appleton City, Wisconsin USA, to James Kegg and Venice Zerrenner.

She attended Northern Arizona University (music and art). She came to Canada to paint the Canadian Rockies in 1968 and ended up in Jasper, Alberta. She later moved to Hinton, Alberta and opened an art studio.

She became a Canadian Citizen in 1974. After her retirement she moved to Creston Valley and painted its richness and wildlife. She also illustrated two books for the authors.


Christy was a member of the choir Key of She, The Blossom Valley Singers, St. Stephens Presbyterian Choir, Art Club, Hi Neighbour Welcome Service. She acted in various plays. She was also in several Relays for Life, The Red Hatters and many more community affairs and had many, many hobbies.

Christy was predeceased by her parents.


She is survived by her aunt Marilyn Zerrenner in Washington. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and of course, her many friends, who became her surrogate family.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Stephens Presbyterian Church, Creston on Friday June 12, 2015 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Gwen Brown celebrant.
