February 10, 2020
In sorrow we say goodbye to Barbara Jean Schubert who passed away at East Kootenay Regional Hospital on February 10, 2020.
Dearest Barbara was a soft-spoken, gentle, kind soul who would give the shirt off her back or her last slice of bread to those in need. She was an avid reader, often re-telling campfire stories to the wonder and amazement of her sons and to her many nieces and nephews as they grew up. She enjoyed tending to her garden each year and loved fishing. Barbara excelled in crafts. She very much appreciated nature and all animals.
Barbara leaves to mourn three sons, Jason (Karla), Ryan (Katie), and Mike (Kimberly), six grandchildren, Elijah, Maryka, Joesph, Mason, Madison, and Aspen, two brothers, Greg Gonwick (Lindy) and Wendell Gonwick and six sisters, Myrna Dufresne, Pat Morrison (Al), Connie Prince, Judy Chalifoux, Sue Dashwood (Jeff), Clara Rollheiser, and Mabel Ann Peterson (Eric) as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband Floyd Schubert, parents Mandel and Winnifred Gonwick, brother Pete Gonwick, sister Kayla Stubberfield, four brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.
A special thank you to Barbara's dedicated caregivers in emergency at the Creston Valley Hospital and in the ICU at East Kootenay Regional Hospital. Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be held this summer on a date yet to be determined.
Barbara will be interred at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Creston where her husband and father are at rest.
