Barbara Elizabeth Schmalz
January 31, 1930 ~ July 12, 2012
Barbara Elizabeth Schmalz (nee Allen) passed away on July 12, 2012 at her Swan Valley Lodge residence, after a 12 year battle with Alzheimers, at the age of 82 years.
Barb was born on January 31, 1930 to parents Cora and William Allen in Ridgedale, SK where she received her education. Barb grew up in Ridgedale, SK and then met and married the love of her life Ray Schmalz on July 11, 1951 in Shellbrook, SK. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary the day before her passing.
Barb started her married life on a farm outside Shellbrook and then in 1955 Ray’s work took the family to Drayton Valley, AB for a few years. In 1959 they bought Cresthaven Rest Home and made the Creston Valley their home. Barb loved to travel, gardening, fishing and taking care of her family.
Barb was predeceased by her mother Cora Allen in 2000 and father William Allen in 1949.
Barb will be remembered by her loving husband Ray Schmalz; their children Jerry (Roxy) Schmalz and Wendy (Tony Wedam) Stander; two grandchildren Vincent and Robyn Schmalz; three great-grandchildren Logan Hambler-Schmalz, Morgan and Dilynn Schmalz; as well as her sister Wilma Metcalf from Saskatoon, SK and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service was held on July 17, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at New Life Christian Church with Hon. Stockwell Day officiating.
