Anna Widzyk (nee Borgosz)

July 5, 1923 ~ April 14, 2013

With much love and great sadness we announce the passing of our mother on April 14, 2013 at her Swan Valley Lodge residence, with her children by her side.

She will be missed by all who knew her indomitable spirit, her warm, loving friendship and her passion for life. Anna’s life was not easy, but she accepted its challenges with hard work and determination.

Anna was born in Andrychow, Poland to Catherine and John Borgosz on July 5, 1923. She had to leave schoool at age 11 and went to work. When war came to Poland, she was 16 years of age. She married her sweetheart Maks Widzyk so they could stay together when they were taken to Germany in to forced labour. Three children were born in a German labour camp. After the war, the family immigrated to Canada, Maks first in 1948, to work in a gold mining camp in Northern Ontario. Anna and the three children followed in January 1949. Anna came to love Canada because as she said “In Canada, you could become whatever you wanted."

In 1950, the family moved to Coleman, AB, where two more daughters were born. In 1957, they moved to the two acre farm in Creston that has been Anna’s home ever since. She loved the place and put down deep roots. She was employed in the housekeeping department of the Creston Valley Hospital for 25 years, where she was well liked and respected.

She was predeceased by her husband Maks in 1974. Anna will be dearly missed by her five children, Erwin, Kas (Camille), Erika (Greg), Sophia and Florence (Doug); three grandchildren, Stephanie, Jeffrey and Guy Michel, and three great-grandchildren.

Deepest thanks from all the family to Dr. LeRoux, the caring staff of the Swan Valley Lodge Harris Unit, Swan Valley Adult Day Care, Creston Valley Hospital and to the volunteers of the lunch program at the United Church.

Also a huge thank you to Frankie and Benny for their help over the years.

A private family interment of ashes to take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erickson, BC at a later date.

Friends wishing to make a memorial contribution in Anna’s name may do so to Swan Valley Lodge – Equipment Program, PO Box 1880, Creston, BC, V0B 1G0.
