Riondel residents have been placed on Stage 3 water conservation measures.

That means watering of lawns is prohibited although watering of new lawns, gardens, trees, and shrubs is permitted between 6 and 10 a.m. and 8 and 10 p.m. Watering by can or hand-held hose is still permitted.

The Regional District of Central Kootenay imposed the measures Monday, which will remain in effect until further notice. The RDCK says high demand has resulted in low reservoir levels. The measures will be relaxed once the levels are restored.

The system has almost 200 active connections drawing water from Indian Creek. The system includes a 100,000 gallon steel reservoir.
