Outdoor enthusiast and local conservationist Trish Drinkle received $2,000 from Recreation Sites and Trails BC to help with the cleanup of an abandoned squatters camp in the Kitchener Valley 6 km east of Hwy 3 along the Leadville Forest Service Road.

“With snow accumulating we will not have safe access to the cleanup site until spring. The consequences outweigh the reward of cleaning up the site. The road is not maintained, and with a steep bank into the ravine ever present and obstacles on the road such as huge boulders we have to err on the side of caution,” posted Drinkle online in the Creston Backcountry Clean up Crew Facebook group.
The cleanup project has received funding from Creston Valley residents, Recreation Sites and Trails BC, and JH Huscroft.
