The Town of Creston’s “open for business” policy got a boost last week with the announcement it has been added to the province’s BizPaL online business permit and licence service.

The news came from Victoria, where federal Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism) Maxime Bernier and Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation Pat Bell announced that 40 more municipalities have been added to the system

BizPaL is an innovative service that provides entrepreneurs with simplified access to information on the permits and licences they need to establish and run their businesses. This unique partnership among federal, provincial, territorial and municipal governments is designed to cut through the paperwork burden and red tape that small business owners encounter.

“Local business is one of the key components to viable economic development in any community,” stated Creston Mayor Ron Toyota. “In support of new business, the Town of Creston has partnered with BizPaL to assist prospective entrepreneurs with the permit and application process when starting a new business in our area.

“BizPaL will provide business applicants with easy access to information regarding permit or license applications for the Town of Creston together with applicable provincial and federal forms, making the application process easier to work with and save time. Prospective new business operators are encouraged to use the BizPaL service now available to them.”

The BizPaL service in these 40 municipalities was developed through a partnership with local governments, the province of British Columbia and the government of Canada. Overall, 98 municipalities in B.C. now offer the service.

“Our government is committed to providing small- and medium-sized businesses with the tools they need to succeed,” Bernier said in making the announcement. “BizPaL is a great example of our government’s commitment to cut red tape so Canadian businesses can continue to do what they do best: innovate, create jobs and generate wealth in our communities.”

“Creating jobs is the B.C. government’s number-one priority, as laid out in our jobs plan, ‘Canada Starts Here’,” Bell added. “BizPaL is a fast, effective tool that allows existing and new businesses to spend less time filling out forms and more time innovating, expanding and ultimately, creating jobs for B.C. families.”

Area business owners and entrepreneurs can access the service by visiting the provincial website at www.bcbizpal.ca or the federal website at www.bizpal.ca.
