Town Council flies through short agenda

Tuesday Town Council meeting was a short one.

With Mayor Ron Toyota and Couns. Jim Elford in Nelson for a closed meeting with School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake), the regular Tuesday Town Council meeting was a short one.

With no major items to discuss, attending councillors rolled through the agenda in short order.

• Council approved the annual request to close some roads for the Just Try It! Triathlon event on Saturday, June 2.

• A request for a $2,500 grant to offset Creston Valley Bird Fest costs was received. The request was denied.’

• With information that the library’s Francophone Affairs Program has been a success, Council agreed to continue its support.

• Town Manager Lou Varela presented an updated 2017-2018 Corporate Strategic Plan, which can be found at www.creston.ca.

• A proposal by the Creston Cruisers car club to hold a drag race event at the Creston Valley Regional Airport this summer was referred to staff for a report.

Couns. Joanna Wilson chaired the meeting in the absence of Toyota and Elford (who is Acting Mayor in March whenever Toyota is away). The meeting lasted approximately 15 minutes.
