Thefts, drinking drivers and mischief highlight police week

Creston RCMP responded to 64 calls for service from March 20-27, a week in which thefts and drinking drivers dominated, Staff Sergeant Ryan Currie said on Tuesday.

March 20

• A vehicle reported stolen from Yahk has not been recovered.

• A domestic threat was calmed after police were contacted.

• After police spoke to both parties involved in a threat on social media the people involved settled their disagreement.

March 21

• A grocery store owner confronted and shoplifting suspect outside of the store and then reported the incident to police. The suspect was well known to police and was soon arrested, with the assistance of the store owner. Charges are pending.

• The breaking of a windshield in Creston is under investigation.

• A dark blue Kink BMX bike was stolen from a Cook Street business property.

March 22

• When police investigated reports of an intoxicated female causing a disturbance by knocking on doors, the located the suspect, who had locked herself out of her home.

• A separate act of mischief in the same area involved a broken gate and broken vehicle window.

• Police attempted to assist in a neighbours’ dispute but neither party wanted to come to a mutual agreement.

• A person in a white van was reported to have entered a rural property without permission.

• A male in custody assaulted a police officer while being transported to the BC Sheriffs. Charges are pending.

• A driver stopped on Northwest Boulevard was found to have been drinking and he was issued a 3-day driving prohibition.

March 23

• Police were called to assist with a violent tenant in a care home. The tenant was treated and no further issues arose.

• Police were called to assist with a dispute that turned out to be a civil issue.

• When police investigated a report of a suspicious tarp and belongings in the bush near Kootenay Bay Ferry Landing they found it was a makeshift camp and there were no issues.

March 24

• An intoxicated male who threatened a child near the Dog Park on Cedar Street was arrested. While police were attempting to lodge him into a holding cell he assaulted officers. Charges are pending.

• The alleged shoplifter from March 21 was found to be in breach of his release conditions and is now back in custody.

March 25

• A driver stopped in Creston for erratic driving was found to have been drinking and he was issued a 3-day driving suspension.

• A driver stopped in Crawford Bay for having a burned out headlight was found to have been drinking and issued a 3-day driving prohibition.

• A check stop at the Highway 3/3A junction turned out to be fruitful when police found an intoxicated driver. He was given a 90-day driving suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

March 26

• Police have been unable to locate the suspect in a domestic violence incident in Lister. The victim was transported to a safe place.

• RCMP members were asked to intervene in a social media bullying case.

• Two female youths were seen lighting a decorative scarecrow in Lister. The fire resulted in damage to the fence and police continue to search for the suspects.
