Twenty students took part in the Creston Festival of the Arts showcase concert.


The eighth annual Creston Festival of the Arts wrapped up on Sunday with the Stars of the Festival showcase concert, which featured those awarded in the string and piano categories.

Recipients in the piano category were Noah Koehoorn (performance award), Piano Six Hands — Alec Hammond, Erin Collison, Ben Collison (performance award), Cory Hammond (piano – primary), Emma Penner (piano – intermediate), Meredith Cote (piano – intermediate), Sheena Soroke (piano – advanced), Rasmus Knudsen (adjudicator’s choice), Dempsey McKenna (adjudicator’s choice), Alec Hammond and Emma Penner (piano ensemble), Joshua Daignault and Hannah Ryckman (piano ensemble), Alec Hammond (piano – best overall).

Recipients in the strings category were Kaitlyn Wiens (performance award), Logan Hammond (performance award), Cory Hammond (strings – primary), Megan Bibby (strings – intermediate), Taija Bibby (strings – intermediate), Skylar Eyre (strings – advanced), Madison McBlain (adjudicator’s choice), Kanonball Express — Noelle Lavallee, Megan Bibby, Skylar Eyre, Madison McBlain (strings ensemble), Ian Mackay (strings – best overall).

The adjudicators recommended Cory Hammond and Megan Bibby to attend the provincial competition as observers in, respectively, the junior and intermediate string categories. Alec Hammond was recommended to perform at the provincial level in the piano category, and Ian Mackay was recommended to perform provincially in strings.
